Jazz Open Ostrava 2025

Dear friends, allow us to introduce the headliner of this year's Jazz Open Ostrava:

On June 19, 2025, we will present at the Silesian-Ostrava Castle the amazing French formation ELECTRO DELUXE, which has been among the absolute world elite for several years now. What truly sets ELECTRO DELUXE apart from others are their electrifying, charming, and even hypnotic live performances. The face of the band is the charismatic singer James Copley.

Their ability to improvise and connect with the audience creates an unforgettable atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression. They have played at the most prestigious festivals, including Marciac, Jazz à Vienne, Montreal Jazz Festival, Printemps de Bourges, Solidays, and many more.

ELECTRO DELUXE are renowned for their uncompromising style and musical experimentation. They dared to combine the freedom of jazz with synthetic sounds and electronic music, incorporating elements of soul, hip-hop, and R&B. You can also look forward to the amazing vocal sextet SKETY. This Czech vocal group recently attracted major attention overseas: in the United States, they won in two categories of the prestigious CARA awards – (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards). SKETY had already received several nominations for their previous work, and this time they won Best Jazz Album and Best Jazz Song. SKETY consists of three female and three male singers who passionately focus on both traditional and modern jazz, with many inventive crossovers into other genres.
Their latest studio album is titled *Fascinating Futuristic Rhythm*. Concerts by these brilliant singers are exceptionally captivating and successful.

The entire evening of June 19 at the Silesian-Ostrava Castle will kick off at 7:00 PM with a performance by Jazz Juniors. Young and very talented musicians – Vojta Sedlák, Kryštof Janáček, Vojta Špiller, Ivo Morys, and Alex Šesták, who, along with his twin Maxim, already charmed America in NBC’s TV show “Little Big Shots” – promise a truly extraordinary experience.

On June 12, we will launch the entire festival with a special concert – Piotr Matusik New Electric Trio plays Chick Corea. The phenomenal young Polish pianist Piotr Matusik, laureate of several international competitions (for example, in composition, he won the Belgian B-Jazz 2016), is a member of the World Orchestra of Grzech Piotrowski and has collaborated with Apostolis Anthimos, co-founder of the famous Polish band SBB. Together with American drummer Frank Parker and bassist Jan Wierzbicki, he will perform at Studio 1 of Czech Radio Ostrava on the very day that would have marked the 84th birthday of the genius Chick Corea. The concert starts at 7:30 PM and will be streamed on YouTube and broadcast live on Czech Radio Ostrava. The event is supported by the Polish Institute in Prague.

On June 17 at 7:00 PM, we will feature Boris Band Combination in Ostrava’s Parník Club, with guest Kuba Kupčík on percussion. They will present top-tier fusion jazz of original compositions by Boris Urbánek from their latest CD “Made in Ostrava”.

On June 18, a traditional Jam Session will take place at DOCK as a prelude to the main concert. Given the presence of members from ELECTRO DELUXE, we can expect some surprises!

As is tradition, we will induct legends into the “Hall of Fame”. Since the beginning of the project in 2006, one of our goals has been to present and introduce young talented jazz musicians to the professional stage through the "Jazz Juniors" cycle. This year we will present the twins Alex and Maxim Šesták, who already shone as children on NBC’s “Little Big Shots” show.
